Circuit Breaker
A month long circuit breaker—
It’s what’s needed the govt. said
Extended on to another month.
We have a circuit breaker of our own
9 months of long distance; we survived
Seeing the other after a long time;
Living together for five days.
But then, we created a new kind of break
Over connected phones and broken-ass hearts.
The connection is clear; I hear you.
One week; nay that is too much.
Our fragile hearts can’t take it,
Overload. Overload. Overload.
A relaxation is offered; three days.
Think. Think. Think.
What’s become of every line
Every fucking promise we made?
What’s become of the bills
Stacked up neatly—fraying
Reminders of our many dates?
The joker card you gave me
So that I’d always know
Life throws a wild card.
Peek. Peek. Peek.
What about all the stolen glances
Just to see if you’re online?
That’s connection—when both us are alive and online
Some sign of life.
But our circuit breaker isn’t circular;
There is an end.
And it’s here.
I wonder if the joker is happy.
For I know two broken hearts that aren’t.
